Help & support

Get PostZapper working on X, bring a post back, look after your data, or get in touch.

Install PostZapper

PostZapper isn’t in the Chrome Web Store yet. When it is, this button becomes Add to Chrome.

Coming soon to Chrome
  1. Add PostZapper from the Chrome Web Store. It needs desktop Chrome, version 111 or newer.
  2. Open x.com or twitter.com. If X was already open, reload that tab first.
  3. Pin PostZapper from Chrome’s puzzle-piece menu so its menu is one click away.
  4. Switch filters on or off in Filters. Every filter is available from day one, and changes apply straight away.

New installs start with Ink Blaster. Zapping different posts unlocks six more zappers. Unlocks change how covers look, never what gets filtered.

Nothing is getting covered

  1. Open the menu from the PostZapper button in Chrome’s toolbar. The switch at the top should read ON · Zapping. If it reads OFF · Paused, click it.
  2. In Filters, check that the filters you want are switched on.
  3. Check that PostZapper may run on X: open chrome://extensions, choose Details under PostZapper and look at Site access.
  4. Reload the X tab after installing or updating PostZapper, or after changing its access.
  5. Scroll past a few posts. Only posts that match a filter you have on get a cover. Trusted accounts and anything you chose to keep visible are left alone.

To check one post, paste its text into Test a post against your filters in Filters.

Filters match wording on your computer. They will miss some posts and sometimes cover one you wanted.

After an update

X tabs that were already open show “PostZapper was updated. Reload this page to keep using it.” Choose Reload.

Bring a post back

Peek
Hold it with the mouse, a finger, Space or Enter to look under a cover. The cover returns when you let go.
Keep visible
Brings back just that text or image, and remembers it. The filter stays on for everything else.
Why hidden?
Shows the filter and the wording that matched, with a way to tune that filter or switch it off.
Recent
Lists what was covered and why. Next to anything you kept visible, Use filters again removes that choice so your current filters decide.
Trusted accounts
Add an account under Trusted accounts in Filters, and automatic filters leave it alone.

A filter covers too much

Open Why hidden? on the cover, or Tune filter next to the post in Recent, to adjust that filter or switch it off.

Peek and Keep visible never change your filters. If you keep peeking at one filter’s posts, PostZapper may ask whether to tune it. Nothing changes unless you choose.

Back up, clear or delete your data

Everything PostZapper keeps stays in Chrome on this computer. These are all in Settings, and each one asks before it changes anything.

Copy loadout
Gives you your settings and phrases as text, to keep as a backup or load on another computer with Paste loadout. Pasting shows what’s inside before anything changes. Activity and unlock progress aren’t included.
Clear activity history
Deletes Recent, Radar posts, activity counts and suggestion history. Your filters, saved wording rules, trusted accounts, manual hides, Keep visible choices and unlock progress stay.
Delete all local data
Removes everything, including unlock progress, and starts you again with Ink Blaster. It can’t be undone.

Removing PostZapper from Chrome also deletes everything it stored. The privacy policy lists exactly what is kept.

Still stuck?

PostZapper is made by Tom Sage. Message him on X, or email hello@martianwinds.com. It helps to include:

  • your PostZapper version, shown at the bottom of its menu
  • your Chrome version, shown at chrome://version
  • what you clicked, and what happened

A cropped screenshot helps. Leave out anything private: posts on X can show names and other personal details.
